Botox is not just for women. Increasingly in my clinics in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire and Berkshire I am treating more and more men. The principle of the treatment is exactly the same – botox injections placed at specific points in the muscles in order to relax them therefore reducing wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows and crows feet- the only difference being that the dose is higher than used for most women.
But what prompts men to consider non-surgical treatments such as botox?
In discussions with my own patients there seem to be a number of triggers prompting them to want treatment, many driven by life events.
• to counter the signs of premature ageing
• to look younger when returning to dating
• to look fresher for job interviews in a competitive employment market
• to look younger when socialising with friends of younger spouses
Many men suffer from excessive sweating, which can be both embarrassing and difficult to manage, particularly in the workplace. Botox injections can be extremely effective and life changing- for one patient in particular he no longer needed 4 changes of shirt a day as result of botox injections for hyperhidrosis.
No longer the preserve of women, botox is becoming commonplace for many men.
